Supporting you, through the holidays.

Hi, everyone! Hope you are all staying warm in the chilly weather. We wanted to let you know that there is support available to our community of caregivers, even during the holidays.

The Family Education & Resource Center (FERC) has a warm and hot line where callers can get information about diagnosis, available treatment, and general assistance in navigating the Mental Health Service System.
If you are caring for a child, adolescent, adult, or older adult with a mental health issue, please call: 1-888-896-FERC (3372)

From the FERC Website:
“The Family Education & Resource Center (FERC) seeks to provide support to family, friends, partners, and other caregivers who care for or care about a loved one of any age with a serious emotional disturbance or mental health issue.

FERC targets the underserved, nonserved, and inappropriately served populations of Alameda County. We assist all who call or come in by offering help, understanding and resources to allow them to aid in the recovery of their loved ones.

Caregivers of all kinds need assistance in overcoming barriers such as stigma and a general lack of knowledge of available mental health and other services, and often require support in navigating and communicating with services and providers.

Whether a parent, sibling, child, spouse or the suffering loved one him/herself contacts us and in whatever emotional stage, we will never turn them away.  Everyone is provided our best, culturally sensitive efforts and connection to the next point in their journey.”

The ‘Village of Funders’ Making DayBreak’s Annual Fundraiser Possible

Our annual fundraiser is less than two weeks away! This fun event for a great cause wouldn’t be possible without the contributions of our sponsors and event contributors, and we’d like to take a moment to acknowledge these wonderful organizations and individuals. From the menu and prizes, to the venue and promotions, their gifts are helping ensure that DayBreak’s benefit on May 19th will be a success so that we can continue and expand our network’s assistance to local families in meeting the challenges of aging with better health and more joy.

Being a sponsor at the annual DayBreak fundraiser is a great way to give back to our senior community,” said Robbin Beebe of Divine Home Care. “So many families struggle to meet the many demands required of them when working with an aging or ill loved one. We understand those struggles and are proud to donate our time and money to such a great organization.”

The ‘village of funders’ sponsoring our annual fundraiser this year includes:

In-Kind Contributors
In addition to financial contributions, we also received in-kind gifts, including our fundraiser event menu of:

• Brisket in philo dough, baked brie, Chef’s salad, cheese platter, bacon-wrapped dates, chicken & pork skewers, lumpia, and assorted desserts (courtesy of Lakeside Park & Bayside Park)
• Fruity scones, crab cakes, and herb-filled pirozhki (courtesy of Mercy Retirement & Care Center)
• Assorted seasonal vegetables with pecan and blue cheese dip, turkey and ham roulades. sliced smoked turkey breast filled with herbed cream cheese, prosciutto-wrapped melon, black forest ham pinwheel (courtesy of Nutrition Solutions)

Meaning in Every Moment
Showcasing his humorous, heartwarming, and witty insights will be Josh Kornbluth. With his thought-provoking commentary and comedic talents, you’re bound to laugh, and maybe tear up too. “How do we make each day of life better? How do we give even the most frail and elderly the most agency they can have?” he asked in an Oakland Tribune feature about his recent visit to Alzheimer’s Services of the East Bay (ASEB), a DayBreak member agency, during their Time Slips storytelling program.

“It’s exciting to see all of the elements of this special event come together — the raffle, silent auction, exquisite menu, and event programming. We’re so appreciative of these gifts from our sponsors, contributors, and headliner,” says Anne Warner-Reitz, DayBreak’s Executive Director. “When you meet these generous folks at the event on the 19th, please join us in thanking them for their support.”

If you haven’t already secured your tickets, do so now – we don’t want you to miss out. If you can’t join us in-person at Freight & Salvage, buy some raffle tickets – you don’t have to be present to win those prizes (but should show up if you want in on the silent auction). Go to the event ticket page for details.

The theme this year is “Meaning in Every Moment,” and the reception offers an opportunity to meet and mingle with caring people, and be inspired, moved, and entertained. Every organization and person who participates in this fundraiser is helping us to increase awareness, availability, and quality of adult care centers in Alameda County. Thank you in advance, and see you there!
