Recently, I received a call from an elder who needed legal advice regarding their credit card debt. For low-income seniors (and non-seniors), there are legal advocacy resources in Alameda County and the bay area that you can explore:
Both provide legal assistance for FREE! There is also a free drop-in legal clinic coming up in February 2017, held by Volunteer Legal Services (please see flyer below for more info).
As always, please feel free to call us if you need help navigating these resources. We’re here to help you.
*Bay Area Legal – Practices in areas of consumer protection (i.e. debt collection abuses, deceptive business practices), health care access, domestic violence and sexual assault prevention, immigration, housing preservation, homelessness prevention, economic justice (i.e. income security, SSI/SSDI, other county-based programs), holistic support for formerly incarcerated people, low-income veterans, and homeless/at-risk youth.
